25 de janeiro Buffoonery (Is winter over yet?)I was looking for a few more mph out of my stationary spin bike this morning. What better way to get that than with a somewhat aero position and TT helmet? I’m thinking of throwing a carbon fiber bottle cage on here as well to eek out a little more speed. While I was enduring that insanity in the basement (Ok, so I just did it for the photo -- gotta have some fun when there’s nothing else to write about) Julie was engaged in her own insanity by running outside. I checked with the National Weather Service when she got home and they were reporting an air temp of +2 (F) and a wind chill of -11. “Oh, that’s not bad,” Julie said. “I’ve run in worse” 18 de janeiro New look for '09 (one of many)That was a fun week to come back to Wisconsin after a few days in Florida. Factor in the wind-chill on Thursday (-40) and it was 120 degrees colder than it was in Orlando for Julie’s marathon. Not much new this week. My new helmet from Rudy Project arrived Tuesday, and coupled with new Rudy Project sunglasses, I’ll have a whole new look for 2009. Will it make me faster? Hope so! 13 de janeiro Goofy Challenge and other stuff in Florida13.1 Mile Half-Marathon (Julie)
26.2 mile Marathon (Julie)
Orlando, Florida
Jan. 10 and 11, 2009
It’s 4 above zero (F) today. One of the warm days of the week. I haven’t been out of the house yet. Just a few days ago I was lounging in, and by, a Florida pool with air temps in the 70s and 80s. Ahhh, those were the days. Anyway, down to business, Julie pulled off the Goofy Challenge at Walt Disney this weekend, running 39.3 miles in two races (half marathon Saturday and a full marathon Sunday). She said she felt pretty good about her results after pulling off back to back races, finishing the half in 1:49:26 something and the full marathon in 3:52:46, a little off the 3:45 she was aiming for, but a good result none the less. Now she has to figure out what other full and half marathons she’ll be running this year. I’ll see if I can talk her into adding to this blog tonight. In the meantime, here are a few photos from the trip as well as a video of random stuff we shot during the five-day trip -- no real order to it, just sort of a goofy little video. 07 de janeiro Socks, socks, socks! After a few weeks working with DeFeet, the order for new team socks was placed this week. One small step for new uniforms, one giant leap for... well, something. Look for the rest of the unifrom design later this winter!
04 de janeiro 2009 (The Book Worm Strikes Back!)Welcome to 2009. Know how I can tell it’s 2009? Because I’m still writing 1/4/08 on stuff when I write the date. Anyway, a good portion of my week was spent working on team sox for this season with the a representative from DeFeet who is making the sox for us. I cannot say enough about those guys and their turn around times. (he's not kidding when he ways a "good portion" of his week... I've never seen a GUY so obsessed by socks. I take less time picking out my clothes for the entire year than he took to decide if he likes orange or blue cuffs. I'm beginning to worry about the boy... it's just not normal. j.) They have come back with two possible designs and one of the guys on our team -- Dave Bogenhagen -- tossed out a possible design over the weekend. So hopefully we’ll get this squared away by the end of the week. Julie has spent another weekend reading some series of books about vampires, werewolves and Eskimos this weekend. I think it’s called “Teen Wolf.” Whatever it is, it’s sure turned here into a book worm. (There aren't any Eskimos. Just vampires. And werewolves. And humans. And it's not called Teen Wolf... though there are teens that turn into wolves. But that's beside the point. Besides, it's better than spending 6 hours on the computer picking out toe colors on a pair of socks. j.) To quote Homer Simpson, “Egg head likes her bookie book.” (Yes. I. Do.) I added a new application to this blog on the middle right of the page, Twitter. It will allow me to send in brief updates from my cell phone. I plan on using this to give preliminary results from races etc. It should get it’s first real-time work out this weekend. Either check back here or you can also subscribe to the service for text messages sent to your cell phone if you like (not that we're that interesting, it'll make you look like a big shot getting text messages and all). (the whole "twitter" thing is still up for debate... I don't know if he will be allowed to broadcast any possible meltdowns I may have... j.) Either way, I promise you I will not be sending updates of things like “OMG, at the mall! It’s like totally packed and I think I just saw Leif Garrett!” (I can guarantee he will be sending those if he sees Miley Cyrus... "hanna montana, you rock!!!" j.) Unless, of course, I see Leif Garret, then I will send an update. |
